The incomparable brain reseacher and author Joe LeDoux has joined forces with 3 other NYU scientists, Daniela Schiller, Tyler Volk and Nina Galbraith Curley to form a neuro-themed rock band called The Amygdaloids. They sing geek-rock tunes of their own composition like "All in a nut" about the neural substrates of fear (amygdala, a brain region involved in fear perception means "almond" in Greek, hence "nut"). Sometimes, however, they fall back on cerebral standards like "19th Nervous Breakdown."
It kinda makes you wonder how many other neuroanatomically-themed rock bands are waiting to be born. I'm dreaming of...
Septal Rage
Nucleus Ambiguus
Decorticate
Sarah Bellum and the Peduncles
...or for a dance band, perhaps...
Restless Leg Syndrome
